  • My client needed a training solution for teachers with limited time and resources. After conducting a needs assessment, we knew that teachers and districts were interested in training experiences but lacked the time, money, and substitutes needed to set aside time for in-person training experiences. We decided to offer an eight-week asynchronous eLearning course with a low weekly time load (averaging about an hour a week). Teachers would receive additional pay for this weekly hour of work, and could complete the weekly module and discussion when it best suited their schedule. The courses needed to be interactive, engaging, and made very quickly. Those needs led us to selecting Rise 360 as our course deign software.

  • My first step was to develop eLearning lesson plans for each of the eight identified module topics. This included reviewing existing lesson plans, incorporating Adult Learning best practices, consulting with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), as well as utilizing my own personal expertise and experience in the field of sexual health education.

  • Once lesson content was mapped out, I began to develop the Rise 360 courses. I strived to include a variety of interactive activities throughout the modules, as well as a Universal Design for Learning framework to ensure that the courses were accessible to different types of learners.

I also led my client through deciding upon a Learning Management System (LMS). Upon review of their needs and budget, we decided upon the LMS platform Moodle.

  • After review and approval of each completed course by my client, I uploaded the eight SCORM packages onto the eLearning classroom I had created within Moodle. Each module included an interactive Rise360 course as well as a discussion board within the LMS. I enrolled registered users into the course, and hosted the eLearning experience for the eight week cohort. This involved regular communication with participants, including a weekly Zoom office hour. I provided monthly updates to the organizations we were working with to maintain additional pay hours for staff, and created certificates of completion for all participants that finished the course.

  • During the Design phase, I had each module reviewed by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and approved by my client. Participants in the course were encouraged to reach out to me at any time with feedback, and completed a summative evaluation at the end of the eight weeks. Participants felt that this eLearning course benefited them, and appreciated the flexible nature of the course. The subject area of these lessons is ever-changing, and I anticipate some upcoming updates - particularly to the Reproductive Justice module. My client is hosting a weeklong training experience on the topic of Reproductive Justice to their staff in coming months, and I hope to work with the trainees to find ways to improve this module further.
